Abstract

The development of information technology has had a significant impact on various aspects of life, including the world of education. One use is in the student attendance information system at school. At Situraja 1 Public Middle School, student discipline problems, such as truancy and absence from class, are a major concern in efforts to monitor attendance during the teaching and learning process. To overcome this, a web-based student attendance system was developed which was equipped with notifications via WhatsApp Gateway. This research uses the Rapid Application Development (RAD) method to develop the system. Data was collected through interviews with the vice head of student affairs and guidance and counseling teachers, direct observation of the existing attendance system, as well as literature and literature studies to compare and design a more effective system. The research results show that this web-based attendance system is able to increase efficiency in collecting attendance data and monitoring student attendance. Apart from that, this system also makes communication between schools and parents/guardians easier in monitoring student attendance. Based on the trials and questionnaires that have been carried out, this system was declared suitable for use in implementing student attendance at school.
